Dmitrii Grigorev

Dmitrii GRIGOREV, bass
Bass Dmitrii Grigorev is the Fourth Prize Winner in the vocal category of the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia).
He has also been a Laureate and Diploma Winner in a range of other notable vocal competitions, including: the Glinka Competition, Natalia Schpiller Competition (2015 Moscow, Russia), and International Georgy Sviridov Chamber Singing Competition (2014 Kursk, Russia). Dmitry studied at the acclaimed Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow (in the studio of Bolshoi Theatre artist Alexander Naumenko) and has been a private voice student of the legendary Soviet bass Alexander Filippovich Vedernikov.
In his musical career, he has already sung on the most prestigious Russian stages including the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Mariinsky’s Primorskaya Stage in Vladivostok, Bolshoi Theatre, State Philharmonic Society, “Novaya Opera” and “Russkaya Opera” in Moscow and has performed under the batons of such conductors as Vladimir Fedoseyev, Alexander Vedernikov and Valery Gergiev.

In addition to an array of Russian romances and folk songs, Dmitrii's vocal range, warmth, and emotional qualities have allowed him to perform such lyric bass roles as Gremin(“Evgeny Onegin” by P. Tchaikovsky), the Old Gypsy (Aleko by S. Rachmaninoff), Sarastro (Die Zauberfloete by W. A. Mozart), Landgraf Herman (Tannhauser by R. Wagner), Frate (Don Carlos by G. Verdi), Ferrando (Il Trovatore by G. Verdi), Sobakin (Tsar’s Bride by N. Rimsky-Korsakov), December (Christmas Tale by R. Shchedrin), Commendatore (Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart) and Prince de Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur”by F. Cilea). He equally enjoys portraying cunning and comic characters Figaro, Don Bartolo, Leporello and Don Alfonso in W. A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte.
Since 2016 Dmitry has been a Fellow at the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky. He continues to advance his professional training with Mariinsky coaches and tutors as well as with invited pianists and directors from San Fransisco Opera and Met Opera in New York, USA and Opera House Covent Garden and Royal College of Music in London, UK.
As an Atkins artist Dmitry joined Maestro Gergiev and Mariinsky Orchestra on their South American tour, performing a series of solo chamber recitals in Mexico and Chile (collaborating with American pianist Myra Huang). He regularly participates in Mariinsky festivals Stars of the White Nights, International Far East Festival “Mariinsky”, Moscow Easter Festival and Baden-Baden Festival.
As a child Dmitrii attended music school in his native city of Nizhny Novgorod and graduated with a diploma in Violin Performance. He also holds an advanced degree in finances and banking from the Lobachevsky’s Nizhny Novgorod State University.
